He was a tough but fair professor, that Higgins. He taught evolutionary science, which, for a fish, was quite a matter to be serious about—they did start off this whole funny business of amphibians, mammals, and animals of the aviary type. Due to his no-nonsense approach, his pupils knew only a little of Professor Higgins’ personal life.
