Scott Savage (Good Awful)

Auckland, New Zealand

Scott Savage is a sculptor and toy maker currently based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Scott’s practice confronts the binary of ‘Good and Awful’; opposing notions for acknowledging value, identity, behaviour, and instinct. Scott’s innate focus is in establishing meaning through wit, tactility, and cuteness, as well as making playful ‘realities’ of acute observation and fusion. Scott is an advocate of the lowbrow arts underpinned by highbrow thinking.

Scott’s latest series of works, ‘Nonimals’, are primal forms; with few distinguishing features or any known taxonomic rank. They don’t follow or lead, but exist purely to interact. They don’t know taste or sound, convenience or hunger, experience anxiety, pain or threat. Nonimals do however, exude arousal and indifference.
